hello,

i had a TIA. my doctor first put me on 75mg Plavix daily.

i changed doctors and he put me on 25mg Aggrenox twice daily, morning
and evening. accoriding to my calculations (:-) i took 75mg of the
Plavix once a day and now i take 50mg of the Aggrenox total in a day.

is Aggrenox more "powerful"? why the difference in the dosage is the
question, i guess.

thanks,

mike

In general, you cannot use raw amounts to compare the "strength" of one
medicine to another, especially when their mechanisms of action are
different, even if the share the same clinical uses. The respective dosages
of Aggrenox and Plavix are simply what have been determined in trials to be
appropriate (effective without excess side effects). The important idea is
whether the two medicines (at their respective doses) produce the same
clinical outcomes i.e., reduction of your risk for a second stroke, etc over
a period of time.
