Default does Neurontin cause weight gain?

I am presently taking 100 mg of Lamictal for depression and
it helps to some degree.

I am now having back pain and my orthopedist wants to put me
on Neurontin to help with the nerve pain from the disc
problems that I have.

I am very concerned about taking a drug on which I will gain
weight. I gained a lot of weight several years ago on SSRIs
and have really been unable to lose it. I do not wish to
gain more weight and one of the benefits of Lamictal is that
it doesn't seem to cause weight gain.

So I guess the real question is whether Neurontin is more
likely than Lamictal to cause weight gain.

TIA

Louise

neither Neurontin nor Lamictal is known for much weight gain, but Neurontin
doesn't work for most pain either. it's best for neuropathic pain, like
from diabetes or shingles. it's kind of known as a "snake oil" cure all in
the psychiatric community.

i hope it works for you, good luck.

Kelly's exactly right. Neurontin is shown to sometimes cause weight
loss. I hope the Neurontin works for you. It didn't for me.

Be well,

I don't know about weight gain, but it made me sleepy and I felt like I
was drunk while I was on it.

I took gabapentin and I think that is the generic form of Neurontin. It didn't work for my pain very well and I was on the highest dose. I gained weight but that could have been because I was also on prednisone at the same time.

Default Neurotin

Niether Neurotin nor Lactamical are responsible for weight gain. However neurotin is responsible for pain relief. It is like a "snake oil" in psycatric community.

Well its wonder for me because I didn't have any experience Neurotin make cause for weight loss as you are saying.. I must clear you about this some Neurotin side effects can be troubling and require evaluation by your doctor. Use this doss with the doctor's recommendations.

Hello Louise,
I understand your concern about Neurontin causing weight gain. Extra weight can exacerbate your back pain leading to more problems.

Have your asked your doctor about Topamax? It is also called topiramate if given as a generic. Topamax was originally an anti epilepsy medication used to control seizures. It has since been used to help with migraines and pain relief including neuropathic pain. Topamax has also been associated with weight loss rather than weight gain typical with other medications.

If you choose to take Topamax for management of your symptoms make sure to use birth control if you are of a fertile age and sexually active as Topamax has been associated with birth defects in babies born to mothers taking Topamax.

Nutrition are also helpful to boost the health. To fulfill the deficiency after hard exercise nutrition are necessary.
