I am back home now after a week long stay at the hospital. My asthma
started acting up, they finally admitted me with a temp of 102. The attending doctor did a cbc and a comprehensive metabolic panel and found that my creatine was up and glucose as well as other things. My bp was in the double didgets and my o2 was 83 when they admitted me. The doctor seemed concerned about my kidneys, said the filter system is not working as it should and that I was drinking fluids but just not peeing enough out. I told him I had been on meds for kidneys infection, uti and he said this is the kidney function not infection. So he was doing labs everyday. Yesterday was the last day of having to go the hospital for the soul medrol injections yay! Now I have this dreadful awful rash all over my chest and its moving on to my face. It itches so bad. My reg doctor thinks I might be allergic to predisone?? Now my last asthma flare up it was the same thing, I had this itchy rash. Is this just a side effect or could it be a reaction? I am concerned a bit about my kidneys. My reg doc is going to repeat my labs in two weeks to see if there might be any disease there. She also said it might be elevated from the predisone and the meds I was on in the hospital. While on the soul medrol I gained 25 pound. I am really down about that, but its better than the 50 plus pounds I gained last time while in the hospital. I don't remember a whole lot being in the hospital. People came and saw me but I don't remember seeing them. Everything even now seems kinda foggy. Its kinda like my judgement is clouded. My temp at the doctors office today was 99.8. While I was in the hospital, I became so weak it took all I had just to get to the bathroom and go potty, and I remember thinking to myself if my oxygen hose would reach all the way to the bathroom I would just sit there and fall asleep so I would not have to get in and out of bed those water pills made it to were just when I would get back into bed I had to get out and go potty again. The highest my creatine level got was 2.0 I don't know if that's bad or not. The Doc at the hospital put me on a no added salt diet so I have been sticking to that. I eat pretty healthy I think, protein low carb diet is what I try and stick to and I use splenda for everything. Also one of the nurses told me that coffee and caffeine is hard on the kidneys. I didn't know that and before I was admitted I had increased my caffeine intake due to the cold weather but when I left the hospital I left caffeine free. I even went and bought a can of decaf coffee and tea. I use to be a huge coffee and caffeine drinker and now I am drinking diet caffeine free soda's like 7-up and I am drinking a lot more water now. I am working on building my strength back up, I am taking everything one day at a time. This is my update everyone take care and be safe. ((((((((everyone)))))))) Melody |

Welcome back, Melody Goodness me ! you've had a tough time. Glad you didn't have to stay in hopsital so long this time. I'm not sure what's causing the rash, hun. You're on Medrol solu-medrol? Sure hope it clears up soon. Good to read that your temperature has improved. Take care of those kidneys Big hugs J |

Welcome home melody,
It sounds like you had a very rough time of it. I am sorry for that. I wish you the best and hope you get plenty of well deserved rest at home too, so you can get much stronger. The medrol weight will go off now that you are off the big doses, it will just take time but it will. you body will adapt slowly to not having it. I surely hope they gave you something like benedryl for the rash or something to take the "itch" out of it? Was their blood in the urine and or kidney test elevated? Protein? Caffeine will also make you dehydrated, that is why drinking diet with caffeine as well as caffinated stuff makes you more thirsty too. Decaf is good and takes some getting used to but since you been in the hospital you are doing well already in that regard right? ![]() A good diet drink, low salt no caffiene, is diet pepsi, believe it or not. Low sodium and NO caffiene but with decent flavor for sure. But again water water water is the best and to drink 64 ounces a day is the very best......floodville for sure LOL Glad to see you on line, now rest janers |

I've been caffeine-free for years!! I do occasionally have a wee bit of
caffeine. Maybe one drink in the afternoon once in a while. You get used to not having the jolt in your system each morning. Watch out for chocolate - it's loaded in caffeine! Salt is a real hassle. I've been watching that since May of this year. If you like peanut butter Peter Pan puts out a reduced sodium that contains only 5 mg of salt per 2 tablespoons, I think, without jumping up to read the label. It's good tastes just like real roasted peanuts! The hardest part is eating out! Watch out for salad dressings!!! Make your own. Any prepared food is loaded in salt. And so is the boxed stuff like Hamburger Helper!!! Also canned soups are loaded!! Even the low salt canned soups have way too much salt in them. If I can help you out with the salt stuff let me know. It's been difficult but I'm getting the salt thing worked out pretty well now. I actually had to increase my salt intake - I had it too low. With kidney function problems I don't think you should be on a high protein diet. It's too hard on the kidneys!! I'm sure someone else can tell you why. hugs Bev "Lassy Lass" <lassyincali@webtv.net> wrote in message news:19585-419A56BA-528@storefull-3211.bay.webtv.net... > I am back home now after a week long stay at the hospital. Hey Melody,
Hope this message is finding you recouping nicely. Hospitals are not fun. Too many germs there for me. I do not drink sodas anymore. I have found even diet sodas to have too much salt in them. Has been over a year since I even sipped a soda for lack of nothing better to drink. Might check those soda labels. Am sure the doc also mentioned how there is salt in many processed foods. Guess this is why most dieticians say to eat fresh foods and vegetables. Canned soups are normally loaded with salt, even those that claim to be low-sodium. Yeppers, that rash thingy sounds like an allergic reaction. I hate when that happens! Are you on any pain killers? Perhaps if your doc feels it is the pred, then maybe cutting back could help. After three years of Vicodins, I suddenly sprang a reaction similar to yours but it was all over so allergies sure do happen, even on drugs which never seemed to cause problems before. Guess that is just us and the way it is. Hope you are feeling super great too soon! -- Always, ...· ´¨¨)) -:¦:- ¸.·´ .·´¨¨)) ((¸¸.·´ ..·´ cloud -:¦:- -:¦:- ((¸¸.·´* |
