Two days ago, I posted about my recent hypo relapse and the fact that
I was taking nearly-expired levoxyl doctor's samples. I asked whether it was possible that the meds might have lost their potency. Lois said yes--and she suggested I check out the FDA recall website. Turns out, on July 28 2004, the FDA announced a page and a half worth of levoxyl recalls. The meds were recalled for the following reason: inability to maintain stability through expiration date. Twelve of the drug lots recalled had the same expiration date (9/2004) as the samples I was taking. Those of you who have been following levoxyl know that this is not the first time the drug has been called on the carpet. I mentioned it to my endocrinologist this morning and he was quite disturbed. He's probably going to switch me to levothroid. If you want to check it out for yourself, go to: http://www.fda.gov/opacom/Enforce.html. Thanks again, Lois! mira |

I was recently taken off Levothroid due to sort of the same problem so watch
out.. They reformulated they drug and went with different binders (inert ingredients) and it changed the potency. The pharmacy didn't tell me that and all of a sudden I was losing hair by the handfuls literally, to the point where I have lost 75% of my hair, eyebrows and etc......I got a notice the second time they refilled my script and called the doctor right away. He changed me to synthroid instead and I feel more stable now after three months. Just about all of the brands have had a recall at one time or another.

Hmmm...I wonder if that would explain my huuuuge weight gain. I don't hav
a doctor to change my meds, though, and I'm not sure how to track down i I'm getting the right potency, etc. I'll have to ponder this. I don' have any other symptoms, though. Usually, my first symptom is that start falling asleep in the middle of the day. ar "Jill M" <jillmarie61@att.net> wrote in message <ngnZc.288236$OB3.149699@bgtnsc05-news.ops.worldnet.att.net> > I was recently taken off Levothroid due to sort of the same problem s watch >out.. I wonder how many posters on this NG utilize mail order pharmacies, since
thyroid meds are considered *maintenance type* meds and can be ordered in 3 month quantities. Storage items, etc. Thyroid meds have been on the market for at least 70 years, and one wonders if the FDA runs random potency tests. Thank you for this heads up!! An important issuea and one that is germane to the worldwide readers of this NG. |
