Deceased Name: Ellen Havican Watson

Ellen Havican Watson, 20, a University of Vermont student from
Bethesda, died Sept. 25 in her off-campus apartment in Burlington, Vt.
She had suffered for years from chronic migraine headaches after having
contracted Lyme disease and was prescribed several medications to
alleviate the attacks, which often required hospital emergency room
treatment. A spokesman for the Burlington police said she apparently
died from an accidental overdose of her medications, although a full
toxicological report will not be complete for several weeks.

Ms. Watson was born in Manassas and grew up in Bethesda. She was a 2005
graduate of the Madeira School, where she was a varsity athlete in
lacrosse, field hockey and equestrian sports. While at Madeira, she
served as an intern in the office of U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.).

Her first love was riding. From age 6, she competed in horse shows and
excelled in hunter-jumper and equitation competitions. Her horse,
Mustang Sally, won numerous blue ribbons.

Ms. Watson, a fine-arts major at the University of Vermont, was
interested initially in ceramics but more recently had become
interested in glass arts. She stayed in Burlington over the summer to
learn glass blowing and was an apprentice glass blower at a Burlington

Survivors include her parents, Ellen B. Watson and George H. Watson Jr.
of Bethesda; a brother, George H. Watson III of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and her
grandmothers, Mildred Watson of Birmingham and Ellen Bradley of
